School of Behavioral Sciences & Mental Health

 

 

In 1977, the School of Behavioral Sciences launched its activities by residency training programs with the educational, research, and treatment aims to provide necessary specialists for the country’s mental health network.

This center was renamed to Tehran Psychiatric Institute (TPI), under management of the Tehran Health District. In 1986, TPI was included in Iran University of Medical Sciences.

Performing national and international activities and meeting the criteria, TPI was elected as a World Health Organization (WHO) collaborating center for Mental Health in 1997. This accreditation continued for four perods.

This school was recognized as a center of excellence in psychiatry and psychology training in 2001 by the Educational Deputy of the Ministry of Public Health, and finally changed its name to the School of Behavioral Sciences and Mental Health.

It will be the first reference of the country to provide and improve the country’s mental health and be a first-hand consultant of the policy maker’s organizations.

Iran Mental Health Research Network

It is a collection of research, educational, governmental and non-governmental institutes which are established for the purpose of organizing and targeted planning based on priorities and scientific needs of country. It also enhances quality and quantity level of researches in the field of mental health under the management of ministry of health and technology.

2006 by approving the rule On Nov 18th, 2006 it has started to work in Tehran psychiatric institute. It also covers 18 mental health networks. It supports practical and national plans which are first approved in one of the councils and receives educational and research resolution of the network.

The network gives other services which are journal databases, thesis, psychiatric tests, research projects and researcher in the field of mental health that all can be applied in updating the network.

 

Office of Islamic Studies in Mental Health

A group of mental health specialist and university principles established the office of research in 1981 by the help of elite professors and taking benefit from their helpful guide.

Other activities in the office of mental health is cited as holding monthly meeting on the subject of religion and health, diagnostic and statistical classification of psychiatric disorders, spiritual problems, SM-IV religious,  and publishing definition of mental health in Quran in two languages English and Persian and dozens of other books by cooperation of WHO.
